Student Project

The studio develops further issues concerning the “Public Buildings” architectural category. The theme is a Primary School located in Xanthi,Greece and the essential matters spring mainly from the specified “open school” character.

Taking advantage of the height differences, we managed to create a separate volume (multi-room) which is connected to the covered sports areas, under a sloping slab that connects them with the rest of the building. It was also necessary to design an outdoor sports area with the existence of benches where it was placed in the North-East corner of the plot, with easy access to the locker rooms. The building is characterized by the protrusions of the six main rooms with the different colors used as a means of connecting the game and the colors with the school. Inside the school, two large atriums have been created on the second floor, providing an ease of movement and connection of the two floors. The experimental room is located at the south west end of the building with direct access to the open space while the library is located just below in the form of an open library without a door. .
